Product Area: Server Technical Area: MIME - MIME to CD conversion Platform: Cross Platform
SPR# MCOA4PLDYT - This fix allow clients to perform MIME conversion when opening a note on the server. This fix addresses a problem where temporary attachments got created during MIME conversion on the server and, when clients attempted to access the attachment, they saw an error message (about file not found or object not present). This regression was introduced in 5.0.3.
Technote Number: 1099806

Problem:
This issue was reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering. There are no
plans to address this issue in the currently supported Notes/Domino R5 and 6.0
product series.
Three possible workarounds are the following:
Set message storage for all Notes 4.6x users in their Person documents to
"Prefers Notes Rich Text." This may not be a worthwhile workaround if the
users rely on IMAP or POP3 in their environment.
Keep Domino 4.6x mail files on a Domino 4.6x server. If the Domino R5 SMTP
server is configured with the above two parameters and the Domino 4.6 mail
files reside on a Domino 4.6x server, this issue reportedly does not occur.
Upgrade the Notes 4.6x clients and their mail files to Notes R5.
Supporting Information:
Perform the following steps to reproduce this issue:
Set up a Domino 5.0.9 SMTP server with a Domino 4.6 mail file (based on the 4.6
mail template).
Set the Person document of the mail file's Notes 4.6x user to "Prefers MIME" or
"No Preference." (Note: One reason Person documents are set to "Prefers
MIME" or "No preference" is to facilitate access of mail files by IMAP and POP3
users.)
Add to the Domino SMTP server's NOTES.INI the following two parameters:
MIME_Convert_HTML_To_Attachment=1
MIME_Convert_Alternates=0
The above NOTES.INI parameters allow a Notes 4.6x user with a Person document
set to "Notes Rich Text" on a Domino server to use MIME-to-CD conversion for
messages that contain HTML in the manner of a Domino 4.6x SMTP MTA. That
behavior includes plain text rendering of the message in the body, with an
attachment (C.HTM) that will launch the user's browser, enabling the user to
view the message with fidelity.
If a message is sent to a Notes 4.6 user who has a Person document set to
"Prefers MIME" or "No Preference" and the Domino SMTP 5.0.9 or later server is
using the above two parameters, when the Notes client attempts to open the
attachment (C.HTM), the above error displays.
